Following the very exciting 4:30am power surge(s) yesterday, some folks in our neighborhood are still without power. DWP trucks were parked along Veteran at Brookhaven this morning, presumably working on the problem. Neighbors report varying degrees of damage ranging from fried tankless water heaters and microwaves, to non-functioning outlets and fritzed-out X-boxes. In our house a number of bulbs blew out, outlets fried, and appliances are malfunctioning (including our bedroom ceiling fan which is stuck on high). All things considered, though, we are OK. I spoke with the DWP and they said that a high voltage cable came down and hit a main cable and things went on from there. You can call the DWP to get a reimbursement claim form for your damage and repair. I'll post a copy here when I receive mine in the mail. Here's hoping they make good!

We just realized our dishwasher is blown as well! This is really frustrating. We have a plumber coming today to look at the hot water heater. But does anyone know whether major appliances like say, the dishwasher, can be repaired and salvaged after a major power surge or do they need to be replaced?
Also- TCW Electric is a GREAT electrian- lives in the neighborhood honest, great work. call him if you need help with any damages!
my parents suffered $1500 in damages- and my sister lost her computer and modem. calling DWP for reimbursement tomorrow!!!
We are on Greenfield and just had our power returned this morning (May 7) around 10am. Ours and our neighbors appliances were burned out. Our dishwasher, small refrigerator and printer so far. Along with their appliances, our neighbors meter got blown up. Terrible!!
We are now filing a claim with the DWP. Will keep you posted!
Let me know if you need a place to shower. We have hot water at our house.
Great! I will definitely use that form. Thanks for sharing! My tankless heater is broken, our heat and air system isn't working, our oven display is fried and we have one fuse that is completely shot. TV, computers, fridge, etc are all fine.
Thanks for sharing this great info here Debra. I know lots of folks were and are impacted by this.
