Jonathan Gold: "Steingarten is the kind of neighborhood bar that every neighborhood needs"

Pulitzer-Prize winning food critic Jonathan Gold visited Rancho Park recently and tried one of my favorite places, Steingarten LA. Owner Ebi Berois a member of Rancho Park Online.

 

The wise sage of local LA Steingarten, the newest gastropub in L.A., declared: "Steingarten is the kind of neighborhood bar that every neighborhood needs."

 

He called it "a dark-wood temple of hops in a big, clean space that used to house the restaurant Kay and Dave's.The first time I dropped into the restaurant, the patio seemed like a fine place to spend an afternoon: sunny but not too much, alive with the sound of burbling water, and relaxed, verging on sleepy."

 

He loved the beer and said the food wasn't too bad either.

Wow. Jonathan Gold. That is high praise indeed. Of course, Gold is no stranger to Pico Blvd. restaurants. Some of you may remember his classic article about the year he attempted to eat in every on the entire boulevard, from downtown to the beach. Gold also turned his Pico project into a story for This American Life, which you can listen to by scrolling down the page.

Not a week goes by when you don't see at least a small gathering of the Overland Avenue Community at this local watering hole.  We're looking forward to the warm summer evenings gathered around the fire in the beer garden.  The owner is a most welcoming man -- and check out what each of the bartenders have as their speciality drink!  There's one bartender that does his own signature killer cucumber martini!
