"Today’s approval is the culmination of two years of collaboration between Authority and CPUC staff," they stated. "The Authority looks forward to starting major construction on Phase 2 early next year."
You can read the Expo Construction Authority's full statement and see a list of all the Phase 2 crossings over at The Source, the MTA's transit-blog.
As many readers and community members here in Rancho Park are aware, Neighbors for Smartrail filed a lawsuit challenging aspects of the environmental impact report and grade crossing rationales for Phase 2. Back in February, a judge ruled in Expo's favor and now the case is on appeal. Streetsblog LA estimates it could be mid-May before a final decision is reached. If the case is successful, construction could be be delayed or halted.
For more information on all these developments, be sure to attend one of the Expo Line Community Meetings being held this week, November 14 and 15.
