On Saturday February 9^th a community bike ride will be starting at the Riddick Center.  It’s a ride to build support for more bicycle facilities on the Westside.  There are currently several things in the works, including a bike path along the Expo route (i.e., a separate, off the street pathway for bicycles) and bike lanes on some area roads.  Some will be built soon, and some will wait until there is a community consensus.  These “facilities” include bike lanes – like you may have seen on National Place and on Westwood Boulevard north of Santa Monica Boulevard – and “bicycle friendly streets” ­– such as on Westholme Avenue, south of UCLA – which have signs, “sharrows” (chevrons with bicycle logos, such as on Motor Avenue through Cheviot Hills), roundabouts, and the like.
