After reading an article in Friday's the L.A. Times, I took my son and his friend, both devoted Harry Potter fans, over to the field behind the Rec Center on Saturday to see the Western Cup, a real life Quidditch tournament. 11 college teams from up and down the West Coast competed in a tournament where they played the game created by J.K. Rowling and described in the Harry Potter series of books.
Whimsic Alley, the mid-Wilshire store devoted exclusively to Harry Potter merchandise, was selling their wares, while Harry Potter devotees sat in chairs on either side of the field watching the players ride their broomsticks (more accurately, running with a broomstick stuck between their legs) up and down the field chasing after a ball, attempting to put it through the 3 elevated rings in the air which look like half of the Olympics logo.
You never know on any given day what kind of interesting activities can be seen just right around the corner in Rancho Park.....
