My Hyperlocal Year: Dinner at The Six Restaurant on Pico Blvd - I Give it a Ten

My husband and I finally had dinner at The Six, on Pico Blvd, just east of Overland. I had a hard time getting my spouse to try the place because seeing the air fries on their menu convinced him that it was actually still Jack Sprats, the previous restaurant at that location which was well  known for their "unfried fries". I think he associated the former establishment with being healthy and therefore, not manly enough for him. It turns out The Six was named after a group of six men - all artists who were known for their fresh and direct approach - and the hearty food, craft beers and sepia- hued decor are deciedly masculine. Even with the air fries.

We are both glad we gave it a try because we really enjoyed our meal. I took pictures of our favorites - the salmon cakes and white bean cassoulet. On our walk home I vowed to buy a cast iron skillet and learn how to make the delicious bean dish with the fried egg on top. Then I realized I could just go back and order another one, which I will be sure to do soon.

Here's a cool video about Rancho Park's The Six

Created by local Venice High guys, the food is definitely not girly!  It is creatively inspired and the menu is, for the most part seasonal, taking the best of what's out there and fresh.  They DO have regular as well as air fries, so no worries.  Their pizzas are wonderful to split with a glass of wine when you're popping in for a light bite.
